Making progress…one step at a time.

Wow! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted…I know I’ve been missing in action and I’ve heard it from my friends but I’m back and I’m gonna do whatever it takes to post atleast once a week no matter how busy I am from here on out!
With that being said…I have accomplished so much in the past month! I’ve registered my business an an LLC with the government, received my license, setup business checking and trust accounts, got my seller of travel permit, and oh I could go on forever…it’s been AWESOME! The biggest accomplishment has just happened this past week! I officially held a logo design contest @ 99designs.com and let the wonderful web designers of the world compete for my $175 prize to create an awesome logo for my World Travelers United travel club! What an experience!
From Day 1, I was giving non-stop feedback to all designers, seeing just the most amazing creations from all over the WORLD! Choosing one design was never easy as they all looked so good, but my good friend Vik Duggal told me something very important early on which hit home as the contest progressed…and that was to keep the logo simple, universal, and global, and to assure that it defines you. I realized that even though I got excited with all the fun designs that were being presented to me (world flags, planes, etc), I had to go with one that was memorable and stood out…I had to be different, I had to be cool, once again all in the words of Vik Duggal – check him out @ Konstructr.com! These important words of advice helped me out so much and after numerous revisions with the designers and requests (96 submissions!) I finally decided on a logo for my travel club business! And I got 4 variations!! Here they are…*drum roll please*

What do you think!? Pretty cool aren’t they? I absolutely love them and can’t wait to take the next big steps in my business. This coming week I have so many things to do (surprise surprise), from working with my website designers @ Xgenwebsolutions to creating the proper content which I want on each individual webpage for my travel club business and much much more. All in all, it’s going to be an AMAZING week, and I’ll be posting an update before the week is over on how everything is panning out! Until next time…this is John and World Travelers United signing out!

Great, great article. I like your idea of hosting a logo design contest. I think I’ll do it myself. Can you give me any advice as to how you’ve found good IT people to work with? Any hurdles you’ve overcome?
I wrote an article recently you may like about success (one step at a time)

Thanks for the comments, Jason! I also appreciate you acknowledging this very blog post on your website!
The best advice I can give you for finding good IT people to work with is referrals! I pretty much asked everyone I know for recommendations regarding website hosting solutions, website designers, logo designers, and so on! There is nothing better than a personal referral from a friend.
The hurdle, of course, is picking just one! I analyzed many web-hosting solution sites, logo design contest sites, and website design + development sites…but had to pick one. After thorough research and speaking directly to the personnel of the company, I was happy that I did my due diligence to find out where I was going to be giving my business. I chose JustHost.com for web-hosting, 99designs.com for my logo contest, and Xgenwebsolutions.com for my website creation. The website is still in progress of being designed and is not officially up yet @ http://www.worldtravelersunited.com but should be in the next week or so!
Bottom line, ask people what they have used and what they have liked, and then, check it out! Let me know if you have any other questions, feel free to email me as well: john@worldtravelersunited.com.
Thanks!
Glad you’ve gotten back into the blogging saddle. Was definitely missing seeing update in my reader from this blog. I think you’ll find regularly updating the blog will be beneficial to the community here and hopefully you’re able to utilize it to ask questions when you get stuck!
Great logo, great work. Just keep moving the ball forward.
